I now got back from inspecting the fire site at the company's property of Olav E. Fiskerstrand. A man (in his thirties) has been arrested in relation to the mentioned fire.

Olav E. Fiskerstrand is a company dealing with export of fish, both codfish and pelagic and the turnover is in the range of 200 to 300 million NOK annually. (30 - 45 million USD).

The police got the message at 0126 that smoke was observed in the area. When the squad car came to the area they detected fire in the 400 square meter building that was used as a storage facility for cartons and paper. A large quantity of tanks (30-40 of them) melted.



Thankfully this was fire in an abandoned wood building and it didn't touch the active facilities.



As of now there is still coming smoke from the site. As previously mentioned the thing was full of cartons. The gas tanks nearby was moved away quickly, and also some pallet (so you can lift cargo with fork lifts) was moved away to make room for the fire squad.

The wind direction was vital, it blew out to the fjord, and not at the main building that is nearby. You can see fractions and fire particles long out onto the fjord, that happend to be a layer of ice at the moment (on a different note that is the first time I've seen there. It is cold in Norway at this time.

The man that was arrested has admitted it was him. I wonder if certain video cameras, including one getting a clean shot of his license plate had anything to do with it ( yes, it is spesificly mounted to get a shot of all incoming cars)


Apparently he was supposed to burn some garbage when he lost control over the flames, and fled the scene.
