News: Yahoo abuse department gets failing grade

After being annoyed for too long by a spammer, mostly in the AdSense help groups ( groups.google.com ) about a member of Yahoo's eCommerce service, store.yahoo.com .
This service allows you to use your own domain name as a frontend for the service. In this case the member posted several hundred messages in the user group. I contacted the google representative responsible for it after the first stream of spam, and about 150 comments got deleted. This, however, only resulted in more spam, and the group owner posted a message in the forums:
Hi everyone,
I wanted to apologize for the large amount of spam this forum has been
receiving today. I've been working as quickly as I can to stop the
violating user and remove his offensive posts, since, as you all know,
self-promotion is not the purpose of the group.
AdSensePro and I appreciate all of your help in labeling spam topics
and reminding spammers that their behavior is unacceptable. We're
thrilled that the AdSense Forum now has nearly 10,000 members (!!), and
hope that you will continue to contribute in a positive way to this
community.
Again, apologies for the misuse of the forum today, and thanks to the
rest of you for creating such a positive, supportive environment.
Cheers,
-AdSense Help Owner
The domain is using Yahoo's DNS nameservers, so I sent one abuse email to the technical staff requesting a deletion of the DNS records. I also pushed an abuse form to the eCommerce site. But as of yet, nothing has happened, and the user keeps spamming forums, as of now there are at least 150 new messages, this time posted using multiple profiles to make it more difficult to cleanse.
The Yahoo abuse department is hereby marked with an F - failed for their (lack of) effort to reduce the spam-problem.

| I sent Yahoo's merchant customer service an email as well. I got the automated response but nothing since. It does seem a failure of Usenet or Google or whatever is responsible for those forums to filter out that guy tho. |

| I generally find it better to get to the root of the problem. As long as users exists that purchases whatever they get in spam emails, spam will exist, but we can reduce the profitability of it and work on efficient spam filters. between 80 and 90% of email I get are spam, as shown at http://www.kristianfiskerstrand.com/2006/11/23/number-of-emails-increasing/ . |

| I agree but the guy is still spamming those forums as Yahoo refuses to take action. Sometimes you have to take defensive measures as well. If Google can find duplicate content on web sites, why not in forum posts? Just think, with the internet in its infancy in China and India, that is two billion potential spammers out there. The problem is only going to get worse.
I sent an email to their abuse address also, but his site is still up after a week. Perhaps it is actually working and he is making some sales, and Yahoo are getting their commission! Yahoo is a lot more mercenary than Google and may adopt lower standards as a consequence. |

| I sent off an email to the domain registrar today, see if they do something about it. Yahoo only keeps sending me generic emails about how they work against spam, yeah, right. |
